Topic 2 - Data-based solutions for sustainable agriculture
We are interested in contributing our expertise from previous national and international research projects to a consortium. For example, we can contribute to the topic by setting up low-cost sensor networks and evaluating data using AI, edge AI and sensor fusion methods. Another focus of work at the institute is the use of drones as carrier platforms for sensors and communication modules. Existing drone-based sensor technology (e.g., hyper- and multispectral cameras, laser scanners, ground-penetrating radar, thermal infrared cameras, etc.) can be incorporated into the project. This builds on expertise in the early detection of bark beetles and forest fires, as well as expertise in the monitoring of water resources using a large-scale sensor network.
The Institute for Applied Informatics of Deggendorf Institute of Technology (Technische Hochschule Deggendorf) has a particular focus on embedded systems, communication systems and geoinformatics. In cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as internationally active corporations and research organizations, a staff of around 45 scientific and technical employees works on applied research and development projects. Among other things, research and development focuses on the areas of communication systems (especially 5G, LoRa and sensor networking), embedded systems, UAVs and machine learning (AI and edge AI).
