Topic 2 - Data-based solutions for sustainable agriculture
The project aims to develop an innovative remote sensing system to estimate Leaf Wall Area (LWA) in vineyards by leveraging the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) LiDAR mounted on the International Space Station to retrieve precise canopy height metrics. By extrapolating these sparse LiDAR measurements to the vineyard scale by using different satellite platforms with shorter revisit times (i.e., Sentinel 2), the system will provide vine growers with insightful, data-driven metrics to calculate the optimal volume of Plant Protection Products (PPP), moving away from inefficient fixed-dose standards.
A multidisciplinary team is needed:
- remote sensing experts
- plant pathologists
- agronomists
- agricultural engineers
The TESAF dept of the University of Padova is a multidisciplinary department involving reserch of agriculture, forestry and earth observation science.
