Topic 1 - Data technologies and data management
We would like to join a consortium of topic 1 as work package leader. We bring expertise in Machine Learning (applied to agriculture and forestry), semantic technologies, interoperability and development of such a data platform.
Additionally, our team includes researchers with expertise in geospatial analytics, enabling us to support the development of AI methods for processing sensor and spatial data.
In our current project, we are developing an interoperable data platform for the agricultural sector in Germany, with a particular focus on the broiler production value chain. The ecosystem involves highly heterogeneous data sources, ranging from analogue reports to machine-readable data provided by partners or official open-data endpoints. To ensure semantic interoperability, we aim to work with existing ontologies and multilingual vocabularies for agriculture, such as AGROVOC, and aim to collaborate with related initiatives to align data structures and enable broader reuse in additional application domains.
Beyond storing heterogeneous data and defining semantic data models, another research objective is the development of data products based on both classical data-science approaches and machine learning/AI techniques. These data products are designed to provide end users with insights into their operations and generate tailored recommendations.
To summarize, our contribution aligns with Topic 1 C-R&I-As 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 and/or 1.20, 1.21.
Hochschule Karlsruhe is a University of Applied Sciences, we contribute to a sustainable society with practice-oriented and application-ready research and development. The experience and expertise of the research areas "intelligent systems" and "resources and climate" will contribute to the envisioned project. Our institute "Intelligent Systems Research Group" is focussing on research in the area of Machine Learning. We have publications and projects in relevant application areas like agriculture and forestry.
