IGN would like to cooperate on the following aspects:
- Detect vineyards and orchards using AI models and ortho-images (aerial or satellite HHR).
- Use historical data to study the evolution of permanent crops.
- Simulate the migration of vineyards and orchards based on the effects of climate change using a digital twin (taking into account access to water, soil quality, temperature changes). Also to simulate the health of vineyards and orchards if models are mature.
- Estimate the impact of vineyard and orchard migration (consequences for farmers, link with European public policies supporting the sector, economic impact, impact on tourism, impact on land use planning, impact on biodiversity, etc.).
IGN expertise is on:
- EO analysis (different sources of data)
- AI mapping
- 3d data (DSM, DTM, LiDAR data)
- in the consortium of the digital twin of France (public-private partnership)
- geodata dissemination and visualisation
- fully open datasets
IGN is the French national institute of geographic and forest information.
IGN is a mapping agency, it is responsible for describing the surface of the national territory and the land cover, for the permanent inventory of forest resources, and for the production of all appropriate representations of the data as well as their archiving and distribution.
IGN organised three IA challenges in 2022, 2023 & 2025: FLAIR - French Land cover from Aerospace ImageRy. Datasets included EO data from different aerospace sensors.
