Topic 2 - Data-based solutions for sustainable agriculture
We are interested in joining a consortium in Topic1 (Data technologies and data management) or Topic 2 (Data-based solutions for sustainable agriculture). We are remote sensing experts and our main research focus lies on generating and analyzing geoinformation products with relevance for agriculture, food security and biodiversity. We further focus on geospatial analyses on the impacts of climate change and options for adaptation. Our methodological emphasis is on procedures for time series analysis and AI applications and on the processing of large, heterogeneous quantities of data (Big Data) combining optical and radar remote sensing data of diverse sensors. We are experienced e.g. in deriving biophysical variables, detect agricultural management events, crop residues or classify crop and land use types.
The German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), specifically the “Agroecosystems and Food Security” team, has extensive experience in environmental monitoring worldwide by means of Earth Observation. Our team has partnered and served as PI in multiple international projects funded by German ministries, research foundations or the European Space Agency. We have recently published several high-resolution regional to national scale datasets on croptypes, grasslands and hedgerows that are free to download https://geoservice.dlr.de/web/datasets/agriculture.
